1999 was the year of Lavos. It was also the year that I met a fellow fanfic writer named April, who was then going by the screenname Gollum3147. She wrote a trio of interconnected Chrono Trigger fics starring her original fanfic characters as well as the canon ones, then went on to begin a very ambitious trilogy of crossover fanfics that combined Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy IV (then known as II), and Final Fantasy VI (then known as III). I was involved in design work for several of the original characters therein and even named a few of them. The crossover series was abandoned in 2000 and, while she and I are no longer in contact, April's characters and their world have stuck with me over the years. I began my continuations of the adventures of Bleu and her friends back in 2019 as a way to get back into writing. I'd had a rough couple of years and felt like I'd lost my creative drive. Then the pandemic happened. At least the resulting fanfiction necromancy has been a lot of fun! While I'm not sure how April intended her series to end, I am basing some story elements on conversations she and I had back in the day. The rest of the continuations/fanfics-of-fanfics are based on existing story cues and my own imagination. But I've tried to keep the spirit of the stories intact and, hopefully, do justice to their characters. (Terra's backstory in "No Tomorrow" borrows from my 99/00 FFVI fic "Forgetting," as I'm not certain of April's intended backstory for her.) "Ipso facto, meeny moe... 2/3/23 UPDATE-O!" (Housekeeping! I fixed some formatting and spruced up the site a little bit.) Time of Their Lives by April -- During simultaneous Telepod experiments in the present and new future, Marle and her descendant Daria are switched to each other's times. Meanwhile, Robo and Daria's half-Mystic friend Bleu are in their own pot of hot water. (1999) Time And Again by April -- Thanks to the scientific mishaps, Magus and Schala are finally reuniting. But it's not quite the reunion they'd hoped for -- Mystics seeking the fugitive Bleu attack, taking her prisoner and Magus and Daria hostage. Escaping will be quite a task for them... (1999) A Time for Friendship by April -- This is the tale of how Bleu became friends with Rydia and Daria, how that friendship was tested by the reveal of her Mystic heritage, and the resulting fall-out of that discovery. (1999)
Reach for the Skye by April -- Centuries after the formation of the army of thieves, Scorpion Army heiress Skye Scorpio sets out on a mission of greed, vengeance, and adventure. However, she gets more than the desired amount of the latter. (1999) Skye's the Limit by April -- Skye's year of sight-seeing is caught short by the unwanted arrival of half-demon Katra DuFarr, an event which throws her and others into unfamiliar worlds and different times. (1999-2000) The Darkest Storm by April -- Katra was defeated, but a greater evil remains in the form of Katra's sister Ankara. The group is once again scattered throughout time and space in an adventure filled with friendship, family, and love both lost and found. (1999-2000) A Time of Magic by April -- Katra and Ankara are gone, but the arrival of their middle sister Karina results in shocking revelations regarding Bleu's past. This is the story of Bleu's mother Orina Farine... and of Bleu's biological father as well. (1999-2000) No Tomorrow by melusine -- Now that the truth has been revealed, Karina, Bleu, and the others must travel to the Underworld to stop Kezmet DuFarr before he ruins everything. (2019-) Another Time by melusine -- Orina's story began in Zeal, but it ended in Medina. This is the tale of how Orina met the Mystic that became Bleu's dad, and how she and Elgin fell in love. (2020-) Time for Change by melusine -- The grand opening of Rydia's Robot Repair + Supply turns into an accidental hostage situation when a Mystic named Harlan visits the shop looking for Bleu. (2021-) Daria's Secret by melusine -- A month after Daria's reaction to Bleu's heritage cost them their friendship, Rydia and Schala discover how Daria REALLY feels about Mystics. This fic is a sequel to April's "A Time of Friendship." (2022) Another Possibility by melusine -- How Orina and Elgin could have met, had Orina been aided by the Mayor of Medina instead. (2020) Slideshow Follies by April -- A retelling of the "People of the Times" ending with additional commentary. (2000) Save Tonight by April -- Orina watches Decamerone sleep. Written from Orina's perspective. (1999) Temptation Waits by April -- Decamerone muses on his feelings for Orina. Written from Decamerone's perspective as a companion piece to "Save Tonight." (1999) Return to Forever by April -- Orina grieves for Decamerone. Written from Orina's perspective. (2000) Nothing Hurts... Like Your Mouth by melusine -- In which Ithonie begins to realize that she's in too deep. Written from Ithonie's perspective. (2000) Time of Their Lives (v2) by April -- An abandoned rewrite of "Time of Their Lives." It appears as though April was planning to condense the story told in her first two fics into one, shorter tale. (2000) These are by my very awesome and amazingly-talented friend Flux, a.k.a. Jerk Douglas, who's also the artist for the artwork portion of the header image! Elgin and Orina -- An adorable picture of Elgin, Orina, and a bunch of the morning class of Mystic kids! And a lurking Lorca. Elgin -- Flux's character designs for Mystic Elgin! These look SO COOL and I'm amazed at how he was able to bring the character to life. My only criticism was that pants were needed because 1) Elgin works with children and 2) it makes him look like he got dressed for work in a hurry. Human!Elgin -- Flux's character designs for Elgin's human disguise! Again, I am amazed at Flux's talent and how accurately he captured the character! The first picture is a serious depiction, and the second is silly. And they both look just like Elgin, who is a very nice Mystic boy. Orina -- Flux's character designs for Orina! I am so impressed with how she looks -- he could've made her Zealian Barbie, but instead gave her a natural sort of beauty with her heart-shaped face and Renaissance features. And her expression in the first one is totally that of a woman who's just been handed a fancy calculator, a really cool pen that writes in three colors, and a shiny rock by a lovestruck Mystic bird. Orina and Elgin -- A very silly picture (based on this shot from Kevin Hart's show) that VERY ACCURATELY depicts Orina and Elgin's dynamic in dealing with Lorca. Elgin Cartoon -- A super-cute animation of Elgin eating a bug, then playing it cool when caught by Orina. Food = Flirting -- This is Flux's goofy first take on Elgin and Orina. He initially invisioned Elgin as a big, round, nest-ready birdman eager to feed the gal of his dreams. Poor Orina looks horrified by the gaping beak of her beau! (This changed when I informed him that Elgin was instead a short, skinny little Mystic nerd, harmless and incapable of horrifying anyone.) Spekkio, Bleu, and Skye -- An amazing picture that depicts Spekkio (in his speculative true form) attempting to entertain his grumpy great-niece Bleu and her fun-having friend Skye with the dance moves of his talented tattoo: "Valoosh, the Master of Dance, is gonna show you girls the shimmy-shimmy!" Harlan and Daria -- A cute sketch of Princess Daria delivering the feeling-uppingest pat-down EVER to Harlan the Mystic. They're both digging it!
"Chrono Trigger," "Secret of Mana," "Final Fantasy II/IV," and "Final Fantasy III/VI" and its characters all belong to Squaresoft/Square-Enix. No copyright infringement is intended: they're just being borrowed for the purposes of fanfiction. April's fanfics and original characters belong to April and melusine's fanfics and original characters belong to melusine. No copyright infringement is intended by my (melusine's) use of April's characters/plots; I'm just playing fanfiction dollhouse. The whole "what they say about demons" thing is, unfortunately, my fault. I included the words "So, is it true what they say about demons?" as a throwaway line in my Secret of Mana fic Season of the Witch back in 1999. I intended the line as a one-off ha-ha, but April ran with it. She ran so far away with it. She ran all night and day. I couldn't get away. I AM SO SORRY.
